QUESTION:

Is 5 pages single spaced good or too long pissing off the judge? I really want to write about all of the things happening and it is not redundant, but judges are very busy and quickly review things before you talk to them and I have no attorney. Should I cut it down and leave a bunch of stuff out?

ANSWER:

Any declaration included with a request for court order must not exceed 10 pages in length. your declaration should be on pleading paper, which will be double-spaced.  A pleading paper template should be available at your local court library, or through your word processor.

The typeface must be Courier, Times New Roman, or Arial, or something close to these, and nothing less than 12-point font. Your reply declaration (the response to the other side’s response) may not exceed 5-pages.

If you are under 10-pages after all of the above then you are technically in compliance with court rules. However, less is OFTEN more. Write your declaration with the belief that the judge will only read the first 3 pages, and maybe only the first page. Get your strongest point out first.
