Separation

A Legal Separation does not end a marriage or domestic partnership. You cannot marry or enter into a partnership with someone else while legally separated (not divorced). A legal separation is for couples who wish to separate their lives but not dissolve the marriage. Couples sometimes prefer separation for religious reasons.

ANNULMENT

An Annulment is similar to a dissolution of marriage. The critical difference is that dissolution ends an existing, valid marriage, whereas an annulment establishes that a couple never had a valid marriage. After an annulment, the marriage never really existed.

A dissolution need not involve an expensive court trial. Parties may elect to mediate or engage in a collaborative process to avoid the ranker associated with the traditional adversarial process
